ROOSEVELT FOUNDATION DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS

Download the Dollars for Scholars Application and Supplemental Form here.

What is Roosevelt Foundation Dollars for Scholars?
Roosevelt Foundation Dollars for Scholars is volunteer based committee of the non-profit, tax exempt Roosevelt Foundation. There are more than 700 Dollars for Scholars chapters in the U.S, all affiliates of the Scholarship America Program, which represent a national growing network of community scholarship foundations

How do we raise funds?
The Dollars for Scholars committee is primarily a fundraising arm of the larger Roosevelt Foundation and gives scholarships to Roosevelt seniors based on annual fundraising success.  Fundraising for Dollars for Scholars is generally community-based and currently focused on smaller donations. Our main source of funds for unrestricted scholarships is the February Phone-a-thon, but through generous contributions, the Foundation is also able to offer restricted scholarships.  Restricted scholarships are funded 100% by the donor and have an additional qualification, such as a specified major or graduation from a named school.  Currently, we have several feeder schools to Roosevelt supporting our program with $500 scholarships.

Who may apply and where may a scholarship be used?
All Roosevelt seniors graduating in May of 2009 who plan to continue their education may apply for Dollars for Scholars scholarships.  The institutions where a scholarship may be used are 4-year college, 2-year or junior college, or vocational school.

How are scholarships awarded?
By the end of April, we add up how much we’ve earned for the year and determine how many scholarships we will be able to award.  A community based Scholarship Award Committee scores the anonymous applications using a point system.  Scholarships are awarded on a fair, non-discriminatory basis.  Some of the criteria under consideration are merit, need, and character.   Students interested in applying for a scholarship may pick up an application in the Roosevelt Counseling Office or the Central Academy Counseling Office.  Additional points will be given to students volunteering for Dollars for Scholars.

The Foundation is in the process of developing a number of new scholarships. All scholarship applications and criteria including the Dollars for Scholars applications will be available January 2009. Students will be able to download applications and criteria from the Roosevelt Foundation website at http://www.trhsfoundation.org/ or pick them up in the counseling office.
